About Me

My name is Henry Lister. I'm an avid golfer, golf writer and photographer.

Although I dislike the term “hidden gem” because of its frequent use by writers, this site is dedicated to them. Many golf courses are a treat to play yet exist beneath the radar of "golf aficionados." I love these places for their genuineness, character and the joy they bring.

Off the Beaten Cart Path is meant to be a fun, interactive guide on our shared golf journey. There are no specific requirements and this is not a place to formally assess golf architecture. I do that as a member of the North Carolina Golf Panel and Carolina Golf Reporters Association.

Rather, this is a place for you and your buddies. Courses featured are most likely to be quirky, or scenic, or maybe the par is 68 and you can post the best score of your life! Maybe the layout should be reviewed by experts yet they don’t know about it. Or, perhaps the course was someone’s dream that actually came true, just in an out of the way place.
